IntroductionEdit

5th Edition Arcazin relies upon the standard classes from the Player's Handbook as well as homebrewed classes (to come). 5E Arcazin is not as expansive as 3.5E, but offers smoother gameplay by straying from an immense amount of abilities, skills, and numbers to keep track of.

Listed below are the classes available directly from the 5e Player handbook. A small description and a link to full class description is included. New classes may be added later. If you're considering a class not listed please consult your DM.

Barbarians are one of the best Melee combat options. You smash!!! You're tough, you can hit, and your enemies DO NOT want to see you angry. You’re most known for your “Rage” ability and being incredibly difficult to take down. This is usually not one of the most social classes but they more than make up for this with heavy punches and toughness.

Characters played in campaign: Shryna - Barbarian/Druid (Player - Jessica)

Possible Barbarians: Conan the Barbarian (duh), The Incredible Hulk, Chewbacca.

The Rockstars of the D&D world. Want to be good at pretty much anything? Even things you're bad at, you're still ok at. Bards make great group support with their buffs and inspiring songs. You also have the ability to break down foes with debuffs and wicked burns. Not to mention usually having the social skills to lead. Bards can excel at almost any task set before them, especially if it involves music.

Characters played in campaign: Geralt (Player - Nelson)

Possible Bards: The Goblin King (Labyrinth), Freddie Mercury, Pippin (LoTR), Jem (80s Cartoon)

ClericEdit

Hit die: d10

Saving throw Prof: WIS & CHA

Base Proficiencies:

-Weapons- Simple

-Armor- Light, Medium and Shields.

-Tools- None

-Skills, choose 2: History, Insight, Medicine, Persuasion, and Religion

One of the most straightforward spell classes to play. You choose your domain at 1st level and follow your path from there.  Be sure to closely look at all the Divine Domains available. This will likely dictate how you play in combat and even how you Role play. As a Cleric you should have a deity you closely follow and/or serve. Your alignment will generally match that of your deity or be pretty close to it. Clerics can be an awesome addition to any party, with a wide array of buffs and protection spells. They're also considered one of the best healing classes in the game.

Characters played in campaign: Jonah (Player - Casey)

Possible Clerics: Van Helsing, Thor (Tempest domain), Joan of Arc, Melisandre (GOT - Light domain)

DruidEdit

Hit die: d8

Primary Ability- WIS

Saving throw Prof: INT & WIS

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Clubs, Daggers, Darts, Javelins, Maces, Quarterstaff, Scimitars, Sickles, Slings & Spears.

-Armor- Light, Medium, & Shields (ALL non metal)

-Tools- Herbalism Kit

-Skills: Choose 2; Arcana, Animal Handling, Insight, Medicine, Nature, Perception, Religion, and Survival.

Druid is the most adaptable class in game. You don't rule over nature, you ARE nature. You get an impressive spell list that includes healing spells, damage, crowd control and more. You can fit any role. Damage?=Oh yeah!!! Healer?=Of course. Crowd Control?= You got this! Hell, wild shape into a Bear and freaking tank. Not necessarily the best in social scenes, but you're too in tune with nature to really care what others think. Carefully choose your circle to help determine your role.

Characters played in campaign: Shryna - Barbarian/Druid (Player-Jess)

Possible Druids: Ancient Gaelic Druids (Historical), Morrigan (Dragonage), Maui (Disney's Moana), Bran Stark (GOT)

FighterEdit

Hit die: d10

Primary Ability- STR or DEX depending on play style

Saving throw Prof: STR & CON

Base Proficiencies:

-Weapons- Simple and Martial

-Armor- All armor and Shields

-Tools- None

-Skills Choose 2; Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Athletics, History, Insight, Intimidation, Perception, and Survival

You're the classic medieval fantasy warrior, and very versatile. You can easily be a big damage dealer with the array of weapons available to you. You can also wear whatever armor you'd like meaning you can take some abuse. Through your own determination and discipline, you've become a force to be reckoned with. You're probably not the smartest or most charismatic person in the party, but with a d10 hit die and decent armor you'll probably live longer than those who are. Look at the fighting styles and Martial Archetypes available before rolling your stats and choosing your weapons. Fighter has a ton of options, use them wisely.

Characters played in campaign: Rohir (Player- Butch)

Possible Fighters: Hercules (Greek Mythology), Captain America (Marvel), Jamie Lannister (GOT)

MonkEdit

Hit die: d8

Primary Ability- DEX & WIS

Saving throw Prof: STR & DEX

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Simple weapons & Shortswords (Nothing Heavy)

-Armor-  none.

-Tools- Choose an Artisan tool OR Musical Instrument

-Skills: Choose 2; Acrobatics, Athletics, History, Insight, Religion, & Stealth

The ultimate martial warrior. You do amazing things in battle using pretty much just your body, mind, and spirit. You are constantly striving to perfect your technique. You are not likely to hit the hardest but between being one of the fastest classes in game and having "Flurry of Blows", you'll probably hit the most. Review the Monostic Traditions available to figure out what path you'd like your Monk to take.

Characters played in campaign:

Possible Monks: Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, One Punch Man, Rey (Star Wars)

PaladinEdit

Hit die: d10

Primary Ability- STR & CHA

Saving throw Prof: WIS & CHA

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Simple and Martial

-Armor- All armor and Shields

-Tools- None

-Skills: Choose 2; Athletics, Insight, Intimidation, Medicine, persuasion, and Religion

The righteous warrior. You can fight, cast, heal, tank, and you can lead. If you want to be the ultimate hero (or villain) Paladin might just be for you. Capable of dealing and receiving massive blows you're definitely great to have around. You're extremely dedicated and very likely to be lawful. A lot of emphasis will be placed on your deity, or if not a deity then your own personal moral codes. Given you're stacking in CHA and your strong sense of who you are and where you're going, a party might be naturally drawn to follow you.

Characters played in campaign: Argo (Player - Alex)

Possible Paladins: King Arthur, Luke Skywalker, Brienne of Tarth (GOT)

RangerEdit

Hit die: d10

Primary Ability- DEX, WIS.

Saving throw Prof: STR & DEX

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Simple and Martial

-Armor- Light, medium, and shields.

-Tools- None

-Skills: Choose 3; Animal Handling, Athletics, Insight, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, and Survival

Want to be the ultimate survivalist? You have a wide range of utility to choose from and you're one of the most self-sufficient classes in the game. You're proficient with almost any weapon you choose and every armor other than heavy at the start. You can also blend into your environment extremely well. You can even get a cool animal companion, or a cute one if that's more your style. This class is extremely versatile and offers a lot of different options as far as playing style.

It's highly advised to work with the DM when choosing your favored Terrain and Favored Enemy.

Characters played in campaign:

Pop culture class examples: Aragon (LoTR), Ygritte (GOT), Link (Nintendo-Zelda)

RogueEdit

Hit die: d8

Primary Ability- DEX

Saving throw Prof: DEX & INT

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Simple weapons, Hand Crossbows, Longswords, Rapiers, & Shortsword

-Armor- Light

-Tools- Thieves' Tools

-Skills: Choose 4; Acrobatics, Athletics, Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Investigation, Perception, Performance, Persuasion, Sleight of Hand, and Stealth.

The quintessential scoundrel. You believe the world is yours for the taking. You're sneaky, stealthy, deadly, resourceful, and maybe even mean. You're also one of the most skilled classes available, so you're confidence might be well earned. If stealth or discretion are required, you're the first person your group will turn to.

Characters in campaign: Relik (Player - Butch)

Possible Rogues: Arya Stark (GOT), Black Widow (Marvel), Catwoman (DC)

SorcererEdit

Hit die: d6

Primary Ability- CHA

Saving throw Prof: CON & CHA

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Daggers, Darts, Slings, Quarterstaffs, & Light Crossbows

-Armor- None (You're allergic to armor friend)

-Tools- None

-Skills: Choose 2; Arcana, Deception, Insight, Intimidation, Persuasion, & Religion.

You are RAW magic. You were born with great magical power. You may not even be able to fully control this power yet, or ever for that matter (Looking at you Wild Origin). Your spell slots and spells known will be quite limited. A level 20 sorcerer still only has 15 spells. Take extreme care when choosing your Sorcerous Origin and spells, you do not have much room to adapt later on. This is a complex class that requires focus for using Font of Magic and Metamagic bonuses (Which is the only thing that makes up for your pathetic spell slots). Since you're spell stat is Charisma you're normally going to be fantastic in social situations. Just don't blow up friends please..

Characters played in campaign: Ophelia (Player - Megan)

Possible Sorcerers:Jean Gray (X-Men), Scarlet Witch (Marvel), Elsa (Frozen), Eleven (Stranger Things)

WarlockEdit

Hit die: d8

Primary Ability- CHA

Saving throw Prof: WIS & CHA

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Simple weapons

-Armor- Light

-Tools- None

Skills: Choose 2; Arcana, Deception, History, Intimidation, Investigation, Nature, and Religion.

Your magic was not free. Your Otherwoldy Patron gifted or even forced on you your magic powers. Alternatively maybe you didn’t even make the deal yourself, you could still be paying for a deal hashed out by an ancestor. You may need to do something in return for these powers, or maybe you're paying a high physical price for them. Work with your DM when rolling a warlock so the terms and origin of your power are hashed out as much as possible. When choosing your Patron remember that Arcazin has it's own list of Dieties, so you may want to consult your DM for an Arcazin equivalent. Your spells and invocations often build off of each other making this class quite complex. Warlocks are great damage dealers and battlefield controllers while being a bit more resilient than your other straight caster options. Your spell slots level with you and you're the only caster who regains spell slots on a short rest (Instead of a long one).

Characters played in campaign:

Possible Warlocks: Sabrina the Teenage Witch (from new Netflix Series), Morgan le Fay (Merlin)

WizardEdit

Hit die: d6

Primary Ability- INT

Saving throw Prof: INT & WIS

Base Proficiencies

-Weapons- Daggers, Darts, Slings, Quarterstaffs, & Light Crossbows

-Armor- None

-Tools- None

-Skills: Choose 2; Arcana, History, Insight, Investigation, Medicine, and Religion.

The original spell caster. You've spent hours and hours studying your magic. You've carefully learned your spells through time and dedication. No one gave you your magic on a silver platter! (cough*sorcerer*cough). Your power is your Knowledge. Since you're so wicked smart you're also going to be a great help to your group when it comes to puzzles or maybe even reading ancient scripts. You are pretty squishy though, so make sure you stick to the back of the group. Be sure to carefully review the Schools available to Wizard to figure out how you want to play.

Characters in campaign: Gaire (Player - Ian)

Possible Wizards: Gandalf (LoTR), Merlin, Hermione Granger (HP) Doctor Strange (Marvel)
